Habitat Capital (HCap) has been a nationally certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) since 2017. HCap is a wholly-owned entity of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI or Habitat) and was created to serve our more than 1,000 US-based Habitat affiliates by providing an array of financial services and products to support their work as affordable mortgage originators, real estate developers, home-builders, sellers, and partners for housing and community solutions. To date, HFHI and HCap have provided over $400MM in capital to its US domestic affiliate network via enterprise-level, secured project-level, bridge and structured financing for affordable housing and community development projects as well NMTC allocation for homeownership initiatives. Additionally, HCap seeks to develop and provide permanent mortgage financing products. HCap values creativity and flexibility in developing financial products for our customers and working with capital partners who share our mission.

HCap is hiring a Head of Strategy and Operations that will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategic initiatives that align with our mission and goals, managing existing and new partnership, and creating pathways for innovation and growth through new programs and products. Reporting to the VP of HFHI and Executive Director of HCap, the Head of Strategy and Operations will manage and oversee the hiring of a team in the near term. As a people manager, the Head of Strategy and Operations will be expected to embody the principles and values that Habitat for Humanity was founded on and ensure a high performing, people-centric culture within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning (25%)

* Lead the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan and vision

* Support the Managing Director’s oversight of the strategy by setting long-term goals and objectives and reporting on progress to the CEO and Board of Directors

* Ensure alignment through effective communication across all levels of the organization

* Design meaningful staff engagements that support the direction of the organization

Partnership Development (35%)

* Manage and deepen existing programmatic and capital partnerships

* Identify and establish new capital partners that complement strategic initiatives

* Oversee effective reporting and compliance for all partners

Innovation and Growth (40%)

* Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation and growth

* Develop strategies that expand the organization’s impact and reach

* Stay abreast of emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges for the sectors.

* Implement new programs by effectively managing inter-departmental teams and external parties

* Demonstrate effective governance by communicating progress and decisions to management and board that results in a smooth launch of new programs

Requirements:

* Master’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of educational and professional experience

* 10- 15+ years of experience in relevant professional industry including, but not limited to, community/economic development finance, nonprofit lending, equity investments, impact investing, investors management, and/or financial services

* 5+ years of progressively responsible management experience, including managing teams

* Focus on and commitment to equitable and inclusive programs benefiting low-income communities preferred

* Deep understanding of the community/economic development lending sectors and opportunities

* Experience with managing external investors and developing successful campaigns to raise capital for dedicated programs

* Strong problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills including ability and willingness to balance strategic, lending, and organizational priorities without compromising quality or customer experience

* Ability to effectively manage a growing, diverse, and remote team

* Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to represent HFHI’s mission and work in internal and external forums

* Commitment to and experience with mission-driven lending in diverse, low- and moderate-income communities; commitment to demonstrating values of diversity, equity and inclusion through portfolio outcomes

* Willingness and ability to travel up to 30%

Preferred Requirements (in addition to minimum):

* Advanced business or public administration degree preferred

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $127,420 to $149,900.
